Exciting in form and amusing in the way the wrapping is twisted along the building, the new Art Museumfor Buenos Aires, Argentina. Designed by former Austrian architectural studio PRECHTECK and now Penda Designhouse is the proper architectural statement.

The beauty of the piece lies in the fact that the twisted surface of the façade is not just randomly curved but it creates one aesthetically pleasing architectural signature of wrapped cloth. The conceptual design deals with the revitalization of Puerto Madero. The viewpoints and the main parameter of the building are highlighted, as it resembles the waves of the waterfront or the sail setting.

At PRECHTECK they say that the design was influenced by the dance, tango, music, the rhythm and the interaction between two performers, therefore the form is dynamically shifting from the straight line. The section of this architectural piece shows that there are pause moments at levels and at half levels, the services and support programs – toilettes and auditorium are slotted in.

The interesting fact regarding the very form of the building is that it actually represents one big space-frame truss and the frame makes moves in order to create its own structural depth. Quite slender elements work in synergy, triangulating in elevation as well as in plan and the section, therefore the building of this size actually didn’t require bulky, concept-killing, beams and braces. The final result is the cloth which is a weaving of millions of small threads, not a single unified surface.
